Long-running English stoner metal band Orange Goblin—whose band name, sadly, is not a reference to the Green Goblin’s far less successful younger brother—announced their 10th studio LP recently, their first in six years. The new album is called Science, Not Fiction and comes out on July 19 as their first release on Peaceville Records where they’ll join such iconic labelmates as Darkthrone, Autopsy, and Candlemass. The new album was recorded at Woodworm Studios in the UK in 2023 and was produced and mixed by Mike Exeter who has worked with Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Cradle of Filth, Girlschool and more.
Alongside the announcement comes the album’s first single “(Not) Rocket Science.” The band explained on the Instagram post announcing the new album a little bit about what the new single is about:
“To accompany this announcement, we have shared our new single ‘(Not) Rocket Science’ – a matter of fact observation on the human tendency to over-complicate life – alongside a swirling animated lyric video by Matthew Vickerstaff.”
The lyric video has a fun space theme with a lot of ‘70s-style retro graphics set to the tune of the hard-rocking single.
The new record is coming out with enough different vinyl and CD variants to piss off Billie Eilish on her newfound crusade against vinyl variants that are, I guess, bad for the environment or something. I don’t know, I generally stop listening when pop stars start speaking. The physical versions include a CD version with a bonus track and a 20 page booklet, and a limited edition gatefold double LP in either green and black marble, crystal clear, or just plain black if that’s your kink.
Go ahead and order your copy from the Peaceville store.
