Federal Government of Nigeria Announces Scholarship Awards for Tertiary Students

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the commencement of its scholarship awards for tertiary students across Nigeria for the academic year 2023/2024.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, April 2, 2024, the ministry, through its Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, invited interested and qualified Nigerians to apply for the Nigerian Scholarship Award (NSA) and Education Bursary Award (EBA) in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions.

Eligibility Criteria for the Nigerian Scholarship Award

  • Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in any tertiary institution in the country.
  • Postgraduate applicants should possess a minimum of a first degree with Second Class Honours in the Upper Division and must be registered full-time students of Federal or State Universities.
  • Undergraduate, Higher National Diploma (HND), and National Certificate in Education (NCE) applicants must be registered full-time students in their second year or above in Federal or State Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnics, or Colleges of Education.
  • All undergraduate scholarship applicants, including Persons with Disabilities (PWD), must have a Cumulative Grade Points Aggregate (CGPA) of at least 4.0 on a five (5) point scale or 5.0 on a 7 point scale or its equivalent. NCE and HND applicants must have a CGPA of 3.5 and above on a scale of 4.0.

Interested candidates are advised to visit the Federal Ministry of Education’s website (www.education.gov.ng) and click on the Federal Scholarship Board ICON on the Home Page. They should carefully read the guidelines, complete the Application Form online, and print the completed form. It’s essential to note that double applications will be disqualified. Required documents include the Letter of Admission to the Institution, CGPA result, National Identity Number, and State of Origin Certificate. The registration portal will be open from April 2, 2024, to May 13, 2024.

The scholarships are available in various fields, including Science and Technology, Medicine and Medical Sciences, Education, Agriculture, Liberal Arts/Social/Management Sciences, Entrepreneurial Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Environmental Sciences, and Law.

Education Bursary Award Criteria:

  • Applicants must be registered students studying Education in Nigerian Colleges of Education and Universities, and they must be full-time students.
  • All applicants, including Persons with Disabilities, must be in their second year or above.
  • A beneficiary of any subsisting scholarship is not eligible.
  • Awards are tenable in Nigeria and take effect from the beginning of the academic session.
  • No Award shall be held simultaneously with another Award nor for part-time studies.
  • Change of course or Institution is not allowed while enjoying the award.

The ministry emphasized that the application process is entirely free of charge, and applicants are advised not to engage any agents for the process.
