GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua County Public School students earned awards at the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair.
Students attended the fair in Lakeland. Florida Credit Union sponsored the trip.
Nathan Wei and Sophia Rong from Buchholz High School won the Division Grand Awards in chemistry, mathematics, and computational sciences, respectively. They will represent the state at the Los Angeles International Science and Engineering Fair in May.
David Rong (mathematics and computational sciences) from Lincoln Middle School and Abhith Kasala (earth & environmental sciences) from Gainesville High School received first-place awards.
Eastside High School student Shiven Sharma won second place in biomedical and health sciences.
Maggie Gao from Lincoln Middle School and Aradhya Kasala from Howard Bishop Middle School won third place in environmental engineering and plant sciences, respectively.
Charlize Moghaddam (Physics & Astronomy) from Lincoln Middle School, Ivan Shorter (Physics & Astronomy) from Fort Clarke Middle School, James Jiang (Engineering) from Buchholz High School, and Luke Xue (Mathematics & Computational Sciences) from Buchholz High School won fourth place awards.
Pranav Mannam, Jaganesh Ramkirshnan, and Gavin Xie (Engineering) from Lincoln Middle School received honorable mention awards.
Multiple ACPS students also received special recognition. Nathan Wei won the American Chemical Society Avogardo Award, Kaayana Sharma received the Manatee Regional STEM Competition, Abhith Kasala won the Sierra Club Florida – Cantwell Award and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Gwen Wendling won the Polk Regional Science and Engineering Fair, Maggie Gao won the Tomorrowland Science Award, David Rong won the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators’ Challenge JIC, Hamza Khan won a prize from the Florida Museum of Natural History.
