SOUTH BEND — St. Patrick’s County Park will host a free mini-series of science programs for girls in the fifth through eighth grades from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 20.
The students will learn from animals and staff from the Potawatomi Zoo in a presentation on Indiana wildlife, along with teachers from Riley High School who will do hands-on science experiments. Jennifer Tank of the University of Notre Dame and members of her research team will show students the world of aquatic insects and what they tell us about the health of our waterways.
It’s called Girls Ambitious about Learning Science, or GALS.
Participants should dress for the weather and wear hiking shoes. Lunch and snacks will be provided. There is no fee for the program since it’s covered by the Dr. Elmer R. Graber Youth Fund for Exploring Nature. Registration is required by April 17 at 574-654-3155.
